Glossary of Terms

Associate's degree: An undergraduate academic degree awarded upon completion of a course of study usually lasting two years or 60 credits.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): A form that must be completed in order to qualify for any type of governmental financial aid for higher education. Must be completed once a year by the YC Promise deadline.

Good Academic standing: Maintaining a 2.0 (“C” letter grade) average or better.

Financial Aid Eligibility: Successfully completing at least 66 percent of credits attempted. For example, if you sign-up for five 3-credit courses (15 credits) in a semester, you must finish at least nine of those credits with at least a “C” or better to maintain eligibility.

Last-dollar scholarship: A last-dollar scholarship is institutional funds used to pay the remaining tuition and mandatory fees after Federal, State, high school, Yavapai College Foundation, and Yavapai College grants, discounts, and scholarships have been applied toward the price of tuition.

Mandatory timeframe: Students must complete degree within 2 years (7 semesters) of graduating from high school or earning a GED. Nursing and Radiologic Technician students must complete the degree within 3 years (10 semesters) of graduating from high school or earning a GED.
