Course Syllabus Standards

Use this page as a checklist when developing or updating a Yavapai College course syllabus.

Syllabus purpose

A learning-centered course syllabus is a learning plan for students and is required for every course offered at Yavapai College. The official Yavapai College course outline serves as the foundation for the syllabus.

The course outline establishes the learning outcomes and content required for district-wide delivery. The syllabus explains how the instructor will bring the course to life through instructional strategies, learning activities, expectations, evaluation methods, and communication practices.

Every syllabus must include the required components listed below. Instructors may use the professional format that best represents the course and meets the needs of students. A syllabus template is also available in the resources section.

Submit the syllabus before the course begins

Provide a copy of the completed syllabus to your Dean or designee before the first class meeting.
