Using VA Education Benefits at YC

Complete these steps in order so Veterans Education & Transition Services can begin working with you.

Apply to Yavapai College

You need a YC Student ID number, also called a Y Number, before Veteran Services can process your paperwork.

Submit the Veteran Services Start-Up Form

Once you have your Y Number, submit the Start-Up Form to begin using your VA education benefits at Yavapai College.

Watch for Your Follow-Up Email

Veteran Services will email you with your next steps within 1–2 business days after your documents are submitted.

Each Semester

Activate Your Education Benefits

VA education benefits are not automatically activated from one semester to the next. Continuing students must complete the semester process after registering.

Three Steps Each Semester

  1. Meet with your academic advisor and register for classes. Your courses should fulfill requirements for your approved YC degree or certificate program.
  2. Submit your Semester Benefits Request. This tells Veteran Services which semester and courses you want certified.
  3. Enroll in the Veterans Payment Plan. The plan defers tuition while your education benefits are being processed.

Education Benefit Resources

Benefit eligibility is determined by the appropriate military, federal or state agency. These resources can help you understand available programs and next steps.

Military Tuition Assistance

If you plan to use Military Tuition Assistance (TA), contact your Educational Services Officer (ESO) or military education counselor before enrolling.

For YC billing and Tuition Assistance information, visit the Bursar’s Office page and locate the Military Tuition Assistance section.

Military Tuition Assistance at YC

Military Tuition Assistance is awarded based on attendance for the approved enrollment period.

In accordance with Department of Defense policy, Yavapai College is required to return any unearned TA funds on a prorated basis through at least 60% of the period for which the funds were provided. The calculation of the unearned TA funds will be based upon the student’s last day of attendance.

The unearned funds will be returned to the applicable military Service branch and the student will be financially responsible to pay Yavapai College for the amount of unearned TA funds returned.

Yavapai College will work with students whose attendance changes because of a military service obligation.

Support for Veterans and Military Families

College success can involve more than registration and benefits. These organizations provide additional support for veterans, military families and YC students.

Basic Needs

Yavapai College’s Student Basic Needs Program helps students facing challenges related to food, housing and other essential needs.

Explore Basic Needs

Provides supportive connections for students with military affiliation to generate camaraderie through activities, volunteerism, and/or community outreach. Open to veterans, military family members, students, and the community.
