We aim to create a permanent memorial featuring 22 pairs of boots to serve as a reminder of these sacrifices and to educate our community while offering a sense of belonging and purpose to the veteran community. To realize this meaningful tribute, we seek funds for its design and construction.

A lasting place of remembrance
Based on 2010 data, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimated that 22 veterans died by suicide each day.

We are raising awareness through The Unheard 22 memorials at both the Prescott and Verde Valley campuses.

These memorials serve as a lasting reminder of the sacrifices made by those who served, while honoring their legacy and helping educate our community. They also provide a place of connection, belonging, and purpose for veterans and the broader Yavapai College community.

On or about the 22nd of each month, we gather at the flagpoles on the Verde Valley and Prescott Campuses to observe a moment of silence at 9:00 AM.
This moment of silence honors veterans—and all others—who have died by suicide, while recognizing the families, friends, and communities impacted by these losses.
The observance is a solemn opportunity to pause, remember, and reflect. It typically lasts 5–10 minutes and is open to all who wish to attend. Support resources are available for anyone who may need them.
We invite veterans, military families, students, employees, and community members to join us in honoring those we have lost and standing together in remembrance.
