Mental Health Counseling at YC
Yavapai College offers free mental health counseling in two convenient ways.
Yavapai College has partnered with BetterMynd.com, an online therapy platform, to offer free video-therapy sessions with licensed mental health counselors. Talk privately with a licensed counselor from the comfort of your room or on the go.
- Free and flexible: 6 individual sessions per semester at no cost for eligible YC students.
- Your choice of counselor: Stay with one therapist or try a different one.
- Easy access: Meet by laptop, tablet, or smartphone—day, evening, or weekend.
- Sessions are 50 minutes, live, private, and confidential.
Scheduling & Attendance
Book sessions through your BetterMynd account. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead—missed appointments may reduce your free session credits. See the BetterMynd FAQ for details.
Meet face-to-face with a licensed counselor—on campus or in the local community.
How to Get Started
YC’s Social Services Office will help you choose the best option based on your insurance or financial situation. For assistance email studentwellness@yc.edu and provide your name, phone number, and Y-number.
Option 1 – Spectrum Healthcare at YC
- Licensed Spectrum therapists provide counseling on the Prescott Campus.
- Weekly appointments offered throughout the academic year (days/times vary).
- Sessions are billed to AHCCCS (Arizona’s Medicaid program).
- Students who qualify for AHCCCS have no out-of-pocket cost.
- Need AHCCCS? Students not currently enrolled may receive assistance with the AHCCCS application through YC’s Social Services Office.
- While waiting for AHCCCS approval, students may be connected to interim counseling through BetterMynd.
Option 2 – Community Counseling Referrals
- If you don’t have AHCCCS or prefer another provider, the Social Services Office can connect you with local therapists who accept private insurance or offer sliding-scale fees.
