Financial Aid Freeze Date

A student’s financial aid offer is prepared based on anticipated full-time enrollment. Students enrolled at less than full-time may receive a prorated financial aid offer based on their enrollment intensity.

In accordance with federal regulations, Yavapai College will recalculate federal, state and institutional aid awards based on the enrollment status in degree applicable courses as of the published Freeze Date. Your aid may be prorated based on the recalculated enrollment status.

Generally, the initial Freeze Date occurs approximately ten calendar days after the start of the semester. The published Freeze Date for each semester can be found on the Academic Calendar. Student enrollment levels are locked on this date for disbursement purposes.

For most students enrolled in full-semester and/or first 8-week classes, the published Freeze Date on the Academic Calendar applies. If you are enrolled only in late-start/second 8-week classes, or you complete your FAFSA requirements after the semester begins, your Freeze Date may be later.

Why does the Freeze Date matter?

  • Adding a class after your Freeze Date: Your financial aid will not increase based on that class.
  • Dropping or withdrawing from a class before the published Freeze Date: Your financial aid will be based on the classes you are enrolled in at the Freeze Date.
  • Not attending a class: Your Pell Grant may be reduced if you never attend an eligible class.
  • Withdrawing from all Course Program of Study (CPOS) classes: YC will recalculate your financial aid through a Return to Title IV (R2T4) calculation. You may have to repay some of the financial aid you received.

When should I submit the FAFSA by?

The federal FAFSA deadline is June 30 of the academic year for which you are applying. However, it’s best to submit the FAFSA as early as possible.
