The purpose of the Student Leadership Council (SLC) is to develop leaders who will in turn lead others. The Student Leadership Council is responsible for four goals:

  1. Leadership - learning leadership skills through activities ranging from leadership lessons given by college administrators, deans, faculty and guest speakers, to potentially attending regional and national conferences on leadership
  2. Peer-to-peer mentoring
  3. Contribute district wide to drug and alcohol awareness on all campuses.
  4. Participate in the Respect Campaign

SLC members are expected to:

  • Be enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours) relating to a certificate, degree or other transferable option.
  • Maintain a minimum of a GPA of 3.0 each semester they serve on the Student Leadership Council.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings. SLC meets once a week for an hour on Fridays.
  • Volunteer their time at Yavapai College for different events, activities and campus tours.
  • Attend a planning retreat/orientation prior to the beginning of the Fall semester.
  • Represent SLC at selected student and on-campus events.
  • Have a VISIBLE presence on campus
  • Be exemplary students, citizens and leaders.


Awards will be issued on a semester by semester basis, with Spring semester reappointment to SLC contingent on performance during the Fall. The following is included in the Scholarship:

  • Tuition each semester to cover approximately 12 credit hours (excluding aviation, nursing and gunsmithing fees)
  • Each student will receive $300 each semester to be applied to textbooks and supplies.
  • A commuter meal plan will be issued to each SLC member as part of the scholarship.

SLC Application

Yavapai College students with a 3.0+ GPA / 6 credit hour courseload are welcome to apply. Applicaton requires a letter of recommendation, current transcripts, and a letter of interest. Applications will be accepted starting in November 2018.
