YCFD logoYavapai College's Fire Science program leads the industry in higher education for fire service professional development. Our program centers upon the overall development of the student including best practices in understanding fire behavior, firefighting, rescue practices, hazardous materials, firefighter mental health, safety operations, and fire dynamics.

Our degrees are based on National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and recognized by Fire and Emergency Services Higher Learning Education (FESHE).

Degrees


Our degree programs prepare students for a career in the Fire Service including career advancement, professional development, and transfer opportunities to our Bachelor of Science programs here at Yavapai College.

Our highly trained professors bring a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to each class. Students will have the opportunity to interact with professors, peers, and classmates for a highly engaging learning environment.

The Fire Science degree will allow students to declare a concentration in Operations or Fire Service Administration.

Fire Science AAS Program Outcomes

Short Term Certificates


This certificate program is designed to prepare students for positions as career and volunteer firefighters at the entry level. Some students may already be employed at the entry level and are seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills.

The Fire Science Community Risk Manager certificate is designed for those interested in training in the area of risk management with a fire prevention emphasis.

The Fire Science Driver/Operator certificate is designed to prepare the student to become a driver/operator of fire service pumping apparatus and hydraulics as it relates to the fire service.

The Fire Service Officer/Manager certificate is designed for those interested in fire service leadership/management and in becoming a fire service officer.

YC offers Credit for Prior Learning (CPL).

Through review and examination of previous education may act as equivalent credit hours in your chosen degree path.** 

CPL and transferring credits may potentially reduce your total tuition cost and time spent earning your degree.**
