REC 140 – Aboriginal Living Skills
Discover time-tested methods of outdoor living inspired by the cultures and landscapes of the Southwest. Students practice primitive fire-making, stone-tool crafting, natural-fiber cordage, and shelter construction while learning the cultural respect and environmental responsibility that underpin these skills.
REC 142 – Outdoor Survival Skills
Build confidence in modern survival techniques designed for today’s adventurers. From emergency planning and fire lighting to water disinfection, signaling for rescue, and mindset management, this class equips you to mitigate a wilderness emergency.
Taught by Cody Lundin, a Yavapai College instructor for more than thirty years and one of North America's most recognized survival educators, these courses offer a rare opportunity to learn authentic, field-tested skills in a supportive, interactive setting. Cody teaches wilderness survival all over the world, operates his own survival school based in Prescott, and is the author of widely read works on survival and self-reliance.
Both courses balance classroom insight with extensive outdoor practice and are open to students of all experience levels.
