Student CARES Act Grant Information

Yavapai College has announced that it will be disbursing over $1 million in federal stimulus money from the CARES Act to students who have incurred additional expenses caused by a disruption of their education caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Students can apply for a portion of these grant funds if they were/are enrolled in Spring or Summer classes or have registered for the Fall, 2020 semester.


Students can apply for a portion of the scholarships after they register for the summer or fall semesters and read the following information:


Guidelines for YC student grant CARES funds

  • Student must be degree or certificate seeking
  • Student must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

  • Student must have still been enrolled after March 13 in, in-person classes that transitioned to online
  • Students must have been or are currently enrolled in Spring 2020, Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 semesters.
  • Student must have expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus
  • Full-time YC employees are not eligible
  • Dependents of full-time YC employees are not eligible
  • DACA students are not eligible

How do students apply and what do they receive?

  • Eligible students will have a short application in their YC student portal
  • Students who are receiving enough Pell or Post 911 VA to cover 6 credits of Summer or Fall semester tuition can still receive $100 to help with books if taking less than 6 credits, or $200 if taking 6 or more credits
  • Students who are receiving Pell or Post 911 VA benefits, but not enough to cover 6 credits of Summer or Fall semester tuition, can receive enough grant funds to make up the difference, and up to $200 to help with books
  • Students that do not have Pell or Post 911 VA benefits covering their Summer or Fall semester tuition can receive $116/credit hour up to 6 credits in grant funds
  • Part-time, tuition eligible, YC employees can receive up to 3 credits at $116/credit hour and up to $200 to help with books


How do students receive the funds?

  • Funds will be disbursed directly to the student regardless if they have a balance and the student will then want to pay their tuition.
    • If they have signed up for ACH in the Payment Center through their YC portal, funds will be sent to the student’s bank account
    • If they have not signed up for ACH a check will be sent to the address the student has on file

CARES Reporting

The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

  • Student must be degree or certificate seeking
  • Student must complete a FAFSA
  • Student must be currently enrolled or registered for the Fall term in a Federal Financial Aid (Title IV) eligible program of study
  • Student must have expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus

CARES Institutional Funds Reporting


Any instructions, directions, or guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants. Eligible students will have a short application in their YC student portal.
