LEAD Program Summer 2019

A free program to support students transitioning from high school to college.

Summer 2019: May 29 - July 25, 2019

The LEAD Program is an introduction to college designed to prepare first year students transitioning from high school to college. Students with social, academic or financial need may qualify for this program. The program is offered on both the Prescott and Verde campuses.

What do we offer?

  • On-Campus Orientation (required): Wed., May 29 - Thurs., May 30 
    LEAD students will stay in the Yavapai College Residence Halls and experience living on campus 
  • Tuition FREE: Two college courses offered for eight weeks. Books are included
  • Co-Curricular Activities on Tuesdays
  • Free Tutoring Support
  • Study Skills Instruction
  • Academic Advising
  • Lunch is provided to participants

Program Admission Requirements

  • If you are not already registered as a YC student, Apply and be admitted for Summer 2019 semester.
  • Complete the online LEAD application
  • Submit qualifying ACT/SAT/Accuplacer scores
  • Must complete the 2018-19 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • Special consideration will be given to students who are undecided about their future plans after high school
  • Preference will be given to students who have taken less than 12 college credits at YC
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be eligible for in-state tuition

If accepted, you will be :

  • Expected to regularly attend ALL courses and planned activities because Yavapai College is carrying the costs and paying for all coursework, textbooks and activities,
  • Required to be available every Tuesday (all day) for the duration of the LEAD program. Tuesdays will include a number of planned activities and programming. 
  • Permitted to miss only one activity during the LEAD program. Students who miss more than one activity will be dismissed from the program. 
  • Expected to allow time each week to complete their homework for the COM134, CUL102 and STU101 courses you will be attending. Students should plan for about 18-24 hours of homework each week, outside of class time. 
  • Attend the final celebration dinner on July 23rd,  4 - 7pm in Bldg. 19, Rm. 147 for Prescott participants or on July 24th, 4 - 7pm in Bldg. M, Rm 137 for Verde participants. This event is for LEAD students and their parents!
