Courses covers the essential GED topics relevant to passing the GED test, with 50% emphasis on math from the basics and word problems through beginning algebra & geometry. Other topics include grammar and language skills, GED essay writing practice, reading from primary sources, and general science, social studies, and civics topics.

Math-focused GED Classes (e.g. math fundamentals or algebra boot camp)

Students begin class with a required Orientation. This course covers essential GED topics with a strong emphasis on the math required to pass the GED test. Test topics such as essay writing, the scientific method and civics may also be covered. This math review class is a great refresher for students preparing for college math or the GED.

GED Prep/Bridge to Career

Eligible GED students win a scholarship for a free, 1-credit YC business class, BSA 102- Career Search and Success. BSA 102 is one of three courses which make up the YC Administrative Professional Basic Certificate. This 3-hour lab employs a teaching assistant who supports students through their YC online course.

GED: Virtual Classroom (Online class)

Great for students who can't get to a class regularly, this course is a virtual classroom, requiring weekly attendance at a virtual "class", online coursework, and periodic face-to-face testing. Students must first show online class readiness through a series of activities and emails with the instructor. Tutoring and GED practice testing are available. An in-person orientation and testing session is required. Contact kate.redmon@yc.edu for more information.
