FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBERS
Carolyn Lee
Carolyn earned her master’s degree in Health Care Administration and Policy from ASU in 1976 and her B.S. in 1971. During her career, she held numerous leadership and executive management positions in hospital administration, health care system operations and non-profit organizations. From 2004 to 2009, Carolyn served as president of a non-profit organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged youths graduate high school and achieve college access. Her experience includes 15 years as an executive management consultant. She also served on the Valley Leadership Program of Phoenix, the Women’s Leadership Council and the Mayor’s Educational Advisory Council of Los Angeles. Carolyn is a native Arizonan, and in 2012 she and her husband, Dennis, moved to Prescott after they retired.
Dr. Charles Thomas
Charles Thomas is a native of California, where he graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. in Chemistry. He then attended Pennsylvania State University where he received a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry for research on complexes of carbon monoxide with some of the rarer platinum metals. Returning to Southern California, he held positions with Abbott Laboratories and the William T. Thompson Company, where he managed product and process development quality assurance and control, and regulatory affairs. In 1986 he started his own consulting company, assisting manufacturers and marketers of FDA-regulated products in the areas of scientific, technical and regulatory affairs. When he and his wife, Linda, came to Prescott after her retirement in 2007, he enrolled in the series of music theory courses offered by Yavapai College. He then joined the Friends of Music, where he served two terms as its president, and is now privileged to offer his services as a member of the Board of Directors of the Yavapai College Foundation.
Phil Winkelstern
Phil is a graduate from Michigan State University with B.A. in Business Administration. He started his career as a corporate analyst for General Electric Company, then worked for Ford Motor Company in the treasury and controller field in North America, Europe and England. He then worked for Commercial Intertech Corp as the Sr. VP and CFO until his retirement in 1995. Outside of work, Philip served on a number of boards, including the Better Business Bureau of Youngstown, Ohio; Blue Cross of Eastern Ohio; McDonald Steel Co.; Western Reserve Hospital; and Mahoning National Bank. Post retirement, Phil is a volunteer at the Smoki Museum, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute member and former chairman/governing council member, and is currently serving on the Finance Committee for the YCF Board of Directors.
Cam Waguespack, President, Friends of YC Art
Cam Waguespack has been a Prescott resident for more than 11 years. For more than 10 of those years, she and her husband, Ray, have been active on the board of Friends of Yavapai College Art. A native of Assumption Parish in Louisiana, Cam, Ray and their four children have called Louisiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California home. The Waguespacks celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in August.
In a volunteer capacity, Cam has been involved as a CCD teacher, Red Cross nurse, Boy Scout Council member, Girl Scout camp leader, ESL teacher, Meals on Wheels driver, Special Ed aide, and has provided transportation for seniors’ medical appointments and other needs. Cam has been and continues to be a lover of art, a supporter of the community college system and an active worker for both through Friends.
Valerie Wood
Valerie currently serves as President and Certified Executive Coach of Valerie Wood and Associates, LLC where she provides commercial real estate consulting and helps motivated leaders and businesses improve their performance and quality of life. She and her husband, Daniel, live in Cornville and are working on their AAS degrees in Viticulture and Enology at Yavapai College. She has more than 20 years in commercial
real estate including the role of VP of Real Estate and Construction, based out of Tokyo, for McDonald’s Corporation, where she was recognized as one of the top one percent of McDonald’s employees.
